The Annies are adding a proven play-maker and a high-stakes competitor to the roster for the 2026 season. We are thrilled to officially welcome South Elgin native and Baldwin Wallace University midfielder Sophie Kirsten to the squad.

Known simply as "Soph" to her teammates, Sophie comes to DeKalb with a reputation for coming through when the pressure is highest. When asked about a moment she’ll never forget, she pointed to a legendary high school playoff performance: after trailing 3-1 at the half, Sophie struck a clinical volley out of the air to tie the game at 3-3, fueling a massive 4-3 comeback victory. That "never-say-die" attitude is exactly what the United faithful love to see at the NIU Soccer Stadium.
Sophie’s arrival in DeKalb was driven by the club’s reputation for excellence. "I’m super excited to compete for DKCU because of their drive to win and the supportive coaching staff!" Sophie shared. Much of that competitive fire comes from her biggest influence—her father—who has been the backbone of her career, from funding the journey to pushing her to grow as an athlete and a person.

When the whistle blows and the summer heat kicks in, Sophie’s perfect evening involves heading to the beach or the lake for a swim with friends. But don't let the "chill" off-field vibes fool you—once she’s fueled up on her go-to vodka pasta, she’s all business on the pitch.
Welcome to the club, Soph!
