The defensive line for DeKalb County United is getting a massive injection of grit and elite collegiate experience for the 2026 season. We are thrilled to announce the signing of Dublin, Ohio native and North Central College standout Megan Michels.

Known to her teammates as "Meg," this versatile outside back and wingback comes to DeKalb with a reputation for lockdown defense and a "relentless" engine. Megan’s connection to the club runs deep; after hearing rave reviews from her NCC teammates and her cousin, long-time club volunteer Zach Smith, she knew the NIU Soccer Stadium was the place to be this summer.
"The competitive nature of the team and the league is what I think will help push me to become a better player," Megan shared. "I’ve heard the fan base is unmatched. Knowing the community goes all out for matchdays creates an electric environment that fuels our drive to win."
Megan is no stranger to adversity. One of her most cherished soccer memories is playing abroad in Portugal and Spain with North Central last summer—her first matches back after a grueling recovery from ACL surgery. That resilience is backed by the influence of her father, her "best friend" and biggest supporter, who frequently makes the five-hour trek to cheer her on from the stands.
"I’ve heard the fan base is unmatched... hearing that they go all out for gamedays is super exciting and will create an electric environment."
Off the pitch, Megan is a master of the "balanced life." While she's currently working on her time management skills to stay ahead of the game, she’s also a fan of the finer things: baking, doing her nails, and the occasional high-quality nap. If she isn't on the field or poolside, she’s likely refueled by a fresh plate of sushi.
United fans can expect a high-octane performance every time Megan steps onto the pitch. Between her lockdown defending and her willingness to join the attack, she’s set to be a fan favorite in the green and yellow.
Welcome to the club, Meg!
