This transition from player to coach represents the community-centered values that define DKCU, as Matt brings his firsthand experience with the club into this leadership position. Currently pursuing advanced education as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Dubuque, Matt embodies the continuous growth and development that we champion both on and off the pitch.

Passion for Development Between the Posts

As our specialized goalkeeper coach, Matt brings technical expertise and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by those guarding the net. His approach to goalkeeper training emphasizes both the physical and mental aspects of this demanding position.

"What I am most looking forward to this season is fully stepping into my new role as an assistant and goalkeeper coach with DeKalb County United," Matt shares. "After playing three seasons with the club, it means a lot to now have the opportunity to give back in a different capacity. I loved playing for this club, not just because of the competition, but because of the strong community that surrounds it."

Inspired by the Greats

Matt's passion for soccer is evident in his personal life as well. His bedroom walls once featured posters of legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon alongside the iconic Lionel Messi – representing both the defensive mastery and creative genius that make soccer the beautiful game.

As a devoted FC Barcelona supporter (besides DKCU, of course!), Matt appreciates the technical excellence and team-first philosophy that have made the Catalan club one of the world's most respected soccer institutions.

Dreams and Aspirations

Like many soccer enthusiasts, Matt has international ambitions: "As a kid, I really wanted (and still want) to attend a major international sporting event like the World Cup or the Olympics, but I never had the opportunity." This global perspective informs his coaching approach, bringing world-class standards to our local pitch.

When contemplating what will matter most when he reaches 80, Matt's response reflects his coaching philosophy: "The impact I had on the people around me, especially the athletes I coached, the relationships I built, and the memories I helped create." This people-centered focus promises a positive experience for our goalkeepers and the entire squad.

Beyond the Pitch

When he's not focused on soccer strategy or his graduate studies, Matt might be found working on his short game – his most recent online purchase was a golf putting mat, showing his competitive spirit extends beyond the soccer field.

And when it's time to relax? Matt admits his favorite "guilty pleasure" movie is "The Longest Yard" (2005) – perhaps finding inspiration in its themes of redemption and unexpected leadership, qualities that serve him well in his new coaching role.

Join us in welcoming Matt Marchiori to the DKCU coaching staff! With his player experience, technical knowledge, and community commitment, our goalkeepers and entire team are in excellent hands for the upcoming season.
