The Annies are adding some serious local flair and creative spark to the midfield for the 2026 season. DeKalb County United is proud to announce the signing of Sycamore native and Waubonsee Community College midfielder Mariana Martinez.

Mariana’s connection to the local game runs deep, and her decision to join United is a homecoming in every sense. Growing up playing in the 815, she’s ready to transition from the local youth ranks to the senior stage at the NIU Soccer Stadium.
A lifelong fan of FC Barcelona, Mariana brings that same appreciation for technical, possession-based soccer to the United engine room. Currently a key piece of the Waubonsee Community College squad, she has developed a reputation for her vision and ability to link the defense to the attack.
"Fans can expect a player who leaves it all on the pitch for her community."
If you followed Mariana for a day, you’d likely find her deeply connected to her roots—she cites her childhood team as a foundational part of her journey. That early love for the game has evolved into a disciplined collegiate career, and she’s eager to bring that experience to the Annies' midfield.
When it’s time to lock in before kickoff, Mariana keeps it smooth. We’ve added her favorite track, "Drake 9", to the 2026 Pre-Game Playlist to keep the tempo high during warmups.
Welcome to the family, Mariana!
