If you’ve spent any time around the DeKalb County United youth programs, you already know the name Jairo Tobar. Now, the Sycamore native and UIC midfielder is stepping out from the sidelines and onto the pitch at the NIU Soccer Stadium as an official member of the 2026 roster.

Sycamore native and UIC standout Jairo Tobar joins DKCU for 2026. A leader on and off the pitch, Jairo balances his midfield role with coaching the next generation of Annies.

Jairo isn’t just another signing; he is a pillar of the local soccer community. When he isn't competing at the Division I level, he is busy shaping the future of the club as a coach for the DKCU Academy teams. His transition from coach to player for the senior squad became a certainty after a standout performance at open tryouts that left everyone, staff and fans alike, speechless.

While most players his age might be looking to slow down, Jairo is just getting started. Despite being 38, he showed up to tryouts with an "engine" and fitness level that rivaled players half his age. That relentless stamina, combined with his high-level tactical IQ from UIC, makes him a dangerous addition to the United midfield.

"My decision to play was for my community," Jairo shared. It’s that deep-rooted connection to the 815 that drives his "Warrior Mentality" and leadership style.

"Fans can expect a warrior mentality and a leader from me this summer."

Drawing inspiration from Ronaldinho’s joyful yet confident approach to the game, Jairo plays with a veteran’s composure and a youngster’s energy. He still remembers the pride of putting on his first uniform in 5th grade, and he carries that same passion into every training session—whether he’s leading a youth practice or anchoring the senior team's engine room.

When he isn’t pushing his fitness to the limit or coaching the next generation, Jairo enjoys the simple things: a family cookout in Sycamore and, of course, plenty of bread to fuel those high-mileage match days.

Welcome to the senior squad, Coach Jairo!
