Rochelle native and Kishwaukee College playmaker Fernando Diaz joins DeKalb County United for 2026. A high-engine midfielder ready to run the pitch for the Annies.

Ferni’s decision to join United was rooted in the club’s local culture and professional atmosphere. After attending tryouts, he was sold on the setup. "It’s local and I thought the environment was great," Ferni shared. "I like the way the coaches run the team and the people I’m surrounded by."

The Kishwaukee standout brings a "box-to-box" mentality to DeKalb. Despite his lean frame, Ferni is quick to point out that fans shouldn't underestimate his physical presence—he’s been a gym regular for four years and possesses deceptive strength. Combined with his current routine of running 10 miles a week to build elite stamina, he’s a player built for the full 90 minutes.

"Fans can expect someone who is always trying to get on the ball, someone who will run up and down the field non-stop, and a playmaker."

Ferni credits much of his development to his brother, Milton, who has been his primary training partner since his freshman year. That dedication to the craft is what helped him enjoy a memorable senior high school season in Rochelle, playing alongside his best friends before making the jump to the collegiate level.

When the boots are off, Ferni’s perfect summer evening is a classic family cookout featuring his favorite food: pizza. To get the pulse racing before kickoff at the NIU Soccer Stadium, we’ve added "Dreams and Nightmares" by Meek Mill to the 2026 Pre-Game Playlist.

Welcome to the United family, Ferni!
