As a student balancing his own education with family responsibilities and volunteering, Dwayne exemplifies the community-first spirit that makes DKCU special. His commitment to supporting our players and programs showcases the impact that passionate volunteers can have on youth sports organizations.
Why Volunteering Matters at DKCU
DKCU volunteers like Dwayne are the backbone of our organization, handling everything from field setup to coordinating events and supporting our coaching staff. This essential work ensures that our players can focus on what matters most – enjoying the beautiful game and developing their skills in a positive environment.
"What I'm most looking forward to this season is watching the players have a good time," Dwayne shares. "That's what makes all the volunteer hours worthwhile – seeing the joy on their faces when they're on the field."
More Than Just a Volunteer
When he's not dedicating his time to DKCU, Dwayne is pursuing his studies while being a devoted father. His most recent online purchase? "A book for my daughter" – a touching reminder of his family-centered values.
Dwayne's bedroom walls once showcased his eclectic tastes with X-Men and punk rock posters, reflecting his appreciation for both superhero stories and music with attitude – perhaps the perfect combination for someone who quietly works behind the scenes while making a significant impact!
Lifelong Dreams and Future Hopes
Like many of us, Dwayne had childhood dreams that remained unfulfilled. "Space Camp was something I really wanted to do as a kid but never had the opportunity," he reveals. This glimpse into his childhood aspirations shows the importance of creating opportunities for today's youth – something DKCU strives to do every day.
When contemplating what will matter most when he reaches 80, Dwayne's answer is simple yet profound: "That my kids and any grandkids are happy." This family-focused outlook undoubtedly influences his commitment to creating positive experiences for all DKCU players.
A True Team Player
While his favorite soccer team (besides DKCU, of course!) is NIU, Dwayne admits his favorite "guilty pleasure" movie is the classic "A League of Their Own" – a fitting choice for someone who understands that in sports, as in life, there's "no crying in baseball" but plenty of room for passion, perseverance, and teamwork.
