DeKalb County United: A Summer Season to Remember

Celebrating Victories, Community Engagement, and Setting Records

As the summer season comes to a close, let's take a closer look at the stats and moments that defined this summer.

Men's Team: A Force to be Reckoned With

The men's team showcased their prowess in 13 games across various competitions in 2023. With 7 wins, 4 losses, and 2 draws, they demonstrated their resilience and determination. Scoring an impressive 38 goals while conceding only 19, DKCU's offensive prowess and solid defense were evident throughout the season. Notably, the team scored in every match, with 7 games seeing them netting 3 or more goals. In 4 matches, they even reached the remarkable milestone of scoring 5 or more goals. Two clean sheets against Rockford FC further highlighted their defensive capabilities.

With an all-time record of 34-31-11 since 2018, the Men's teamed has consistently shown their mettle, scoring a total of 146 goals while conceding 152 in their 76 matches played. Participation in the Illinois State Cup has been fruitful, as they have won at least one match in every season.

The final three games of the 2023 season were particularly memorable, as DKCU emerged victorious in all three, outscoring their opponents 14-1. These wins not only showcased their dominance but also marked significant milestones. We set a club attendance record of 619 fans in June when we faced off against Chicago House, simultaneously triumphing over them for the first time in club history. Additionally, we achieved our first-ever victories against RWB Adria and secured a home draw against defending national Amateur Champ, Bavarian United.

Women's Team: A Legacy of Success

United's women's team also had an exceptional season, reaching the final of the IL State Cup for the third consecutive year. Their consistent performance led them to a second-place finish in the league. Despite all their home games being on Tuesday nights, the Ladies averaged an attendance of 186, which is phenomenal.

Combining both men's and women's matches, overall average attendance was an impressive 418.

Perhaps most significantly, match day income exceeded expenses at every home game for both men’s and women’s teams.

Making a Difference Beyond the Field

The Club's impact extended far beyond achievements on the field. We actively engaged with the community, raising funds for pediatric cancer and the Alzheimer's Association, whilst contributions to Barb Food Mart ensured that those in need had access to food. The team also participated in elementary school functions in Sycamore and Dekalb, fostering a sense of community and inspiring young soccer enthusiasts. In addition, there have been two Women's World Cup watch parties at two local businesses, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for fans to come together and celebrate the sport they love. We have also played a vital role in promoting the beer and seltzers from Byers Brewing Company, further strengthening their ties with local businesses.

Gratitude and Excitement for the Future

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all who attended matches, sponsored the club, volunteered, or proudly wore the team's jersey on the field. The journey has only just begun and are eagerly looking forward to the upcoming 2024 season, filled with renewed determination and aspirations. As DKCU continues to grow and make a positive impact, our unwavering commitment to excellence and community engagement sets them apart. The summer season of 2023 will be remembered as a time when DeKalb County United showcased talent, set records, and left an indelible mark on the DeKalb County soccer scene.

Onward to 2024, DKCU! ⚽️🌽🤝
