Coach Resigns!

Updated: Aug 4, 2021

DeKalb County United Soccer Club team Head Coach Mike Gecan has informed the club that he

will not return in 2022.

Gecan joined the club as its first ever head coach in December of 2017. He led the club through two seasons in the UPSL in 2018 and 2019, and after a 20 month layoff due to the pandemic, Gecan returned to lead the squad through the first season in the Midwest Premier League. Although league results were not there in 2021, Gecan did lead the team to the semi-finals in the Illinois State Cup tournament, the club’s best ever showing in the showpiece event.

In a statement, Coach said the following,

"As our club heads into another off season I will be stepping away as the head coach of a program that has truly captured my heart. I’ve had the privilege of coaching some very hard working and talented players, met a lot of selfless volunteers, and felt the support of more fans than I could have ever imagined. My family & I wish the DKCU community only the best and look forward to seeing you at some games next year. I CAN hear you...DKCU & I do see you! With Love & Appreciation, Coach Gecan "

DeKalb County United President John Hall said,

"We can't thank Coach Gecan enough for his commitment and efforts over these past 4 years. He worked very hard to make this club a success on the field and we're forever grateful that he believed in this project and was willing to be a part of our story. Beyond his own sacrifice, the families of our staff also play a role so we thank his wife, daughter, parents, brother and other family for also being amazing supporters of the club. We wish him and his entire family well and look forward to seeing them soon."

The club will be looking to bring in a new manager who can build on the foundation that's been built over the past three seasons. Interested individuals should email contact@dkcunited.com
