The Annies are locking down the backline for the 2026 season. DeKalb County United is proud to announce the signing of Elgin native and St. Cloud State University center-back Charlie Ames.

Charlie comes to DeKalb looking to test himself against the best in the region. After seeing the quality of play in the 815, he knew this was the right environment to sharpen his game. "The level is really good, and it is going to prepare me for my fall college season," Charlie noted.
A passionate competitor on the pitch, Charlie draws deep inspiration from his father, who coached him through his development and remains his biggest influence. That competitive spark was ignited early on—most notably during his senior year of high school, when he bagged his first goal against a heated rival, a moment he still ranks as his favorite soccer memory.
"Fans can expect me to be very passionate every time I step onto the pitch this summer."
When he isn't commanding the defense, Charlie trades the soccer boots for golf spikes. A perfect summer evening for him usually involves hitting the links for a round with "the fellas." Beyond sport, he is currently focused on personal growth and mindfulness, working hard to "live more in the moment."
Whether he's fueling up at Chipotle or preparing for a matchday shift, Charlie is ready to bring a "Warrior Mentality" to the heart of the United defense.
Welcome to the family, Charlie!
