The DeKalb County Soccer Hall of Fame is proud to welcome its first 2025 inductee: Dave Lichamer — a true pillar of the local soccer community whose leadership, legacy, and love for the game have left an undeniable mark on the sport in DeKalb County.
A Coaching Legacy That Spans Generations
Since the early 2000s, Dave has been more than just a coach — he’s been a mentor, role model, and soccer visionary. From youth teams to varsity squads, Dave has helped shape hundreds of young players across DeKalb County.
As head coach of the Sycamore High School boys program from 2000 to 2014, Dave earned 171 career wins, highlighted by an unforgettable run in 2004 when his squad reached the IHSA State Championship, falling just short in the fourth overtime to finish second in the state — a legendary match still remembered by many.
From 2014 to 2018, Dave simultaneously led the Sycamore High School girls team, building another powerhouse program. Under his guidance, the girls earned 253 wins, reached the IHSA State Finals in both 2009 and 2016, and stacked up conference, regional, and sectional titles along the way.
Accolades, Impact, and Ongoing Involvement
Coach Lichamer’s work has not gone unnoticed. He’s been named IHSSCA Sectional Coach of the Year multiple times and coached numerous IHSSCA All-State players, many of whom credit his guidance with helping them grow both on and off the pitch.
Even after stepping away from full-time head coaching, Dave continues to give back to the game he loves. He currently serves as assistant coach at DeKalb High School, officiates local high school matches, and even still laces up the boots to play for Nightmare Sauce in the DeKalb Park District’s Adult Indoor League.
A Hall-of-Fame Career, A Lifelong Commitment
Dave Lichamer’s influence extends far beyond the win column. His commitment to youth development, sportsmanship, and community involvement has made him a cornerstone of DeKalb County soccer for over two decades.
From thrilling state tournament runs to grassroots soccer on the weekends, Coach Lichamer’s passion continues to shape the next generation.
